Every good around the house is stored differently – some more easily than others. For instance, items like food, DVDs, and cleaning solutions pretty much have designated spots that they snugly fit in; food goes in the pantry or refrigerator, books can be kept on a bookshelf, and cleaning supplies can be conveniently placed in the garage’s wire shelving unit. For other items, it’s not so easy, and can be a huge headache to figure out how to properly store. At The Shelving Store, we know storage best, which is why we’ve compiled a brief guide of the types of goods that aren’t so easy to store.
Outside Clothing Accessories
The thing about outdoor clothing accessories – like umbrellas, sunglasses, or hats – is that they’re not items you exactly wear or use everyday. This said, it doesn’t mean you want to bury them in a place where it will be hard to find when you need them. Add a storage bin in your nearest closet to hold all clothing accessories such as scarves, gloves, and other items that are optional to wear before prepping for the weather and exiting your home. For other items that aren’t fit to be stored in a bin – like an umbrella – find a coat hook for it to be hung on near the doorway so that as you walk out the door and assess the weather, you can quickly identify where it is before heading out.
Sports Gear
Sports equipment is notoriously difficult to store. Even with a sports bag, there’s still a large amount of oddly-shaped items that don’t have convenient storage containers like helmets, hockey sticks, or mini nets. An easy answer to this is creating a sports section in your garage. Outfit the garage with a mesh basket, a rack to hold items like baseball gloves and tennis rackets, and ball claws to utilize wall space with.
Bicycles
There’s no natural way to store a bike. Well, at least without the help of a storage unit. Unless it’s possible to make room in the garage, they often have to be leaned against the side of the house in a secure, out-of-site spot. Both of these options aren’t favorable due to the possibility of brushing a bike’s handlebars against a car (and in turn scratching it) or putting the bike at risk of being stolen. To avoid the clumsy struggle of finding a place to store your bike, install a bike rack in your garage so that family members and guest alike can have a reliable place to store their bicycles at all times.
